About A4K

Nicole Jones

Miss Nicole Jones knew she wanted to teach children from a young age. She had a brother and lots of cousins to practice on, as well as working in an after-school program during her junior high and high school years. She took Early Childhood Development and Psychology courses at U C Davis. After graduation she applied for a position at Henry Haight Elementary School in Alameda, CA. With her acceptance to Alameda Unified School District and the subsequent 16 years at Henry Haight Elementary, she was fulfilling her dream.

She also started courses at St. Mary’s University in Moraga, CA for her Masters in Reading. This was interrupted with her cancer diagnosis in 2011, but that did not deter her from her life goal – teaching young children to read and have confidence in themselves. She eventually got her master’s degree with a lot of work and determination, and we were so proud of her. We lost Nicole in December 2019, but her memory will live on. Her family has set up a non-profit and scholarship in her memory. We hope that these scholarship winners will encompass all that Nicole worked so hard to achieve in her shortened career – a positive attitude and a love of learning.
